Notes: With the Second World War looming over Europe, Donati and his young family moved permanently to New York in late 1939. There, he joined artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, Fernand Léger, Yves Tanguy, and Piet Mondrian, who had also already fled fascism and the threat of war. Donati held his first exhibition at the New School of Social Research just a few years later.
