Edward Seago (1910-1974) “Honfleur Harbor”

Edward Brian Seago (1910 – 1974) “Honfleur Harbor” Signed lower left. Oil on Board. In this work, Seago has created a marvelous interaction of sea, sky and harbor detail. Bathed overall in an atmospheric blue-gray caste that captures the feel of a blustery day at the Honfleur Quayside, this work is reminiscent in its overall appeal of the marine paintings of French master Boudin, who lived in Honfleur. Balanced by the people and architecture along the quayside and the lone vessel working in the harbor, this work is characteristic of one of Seago’s favored themes. Painted with his trademark short staccato-like brush strokes, it conveys the accurate feeling of the artist’s on-site plein air application of oil to canvas.
